​Sophie Smith is a Clinical and Educational/Developmental Psychologist with more than 19 years experience.

Providing warm support to young people aged 16-24 in Bowral (NSW Southern Highlands) and clinical supervision to health professionals in all locations.

 Sophie founded The Young Mind Clinic in Sydney where she is the Clinic Director, providing supervision to her team of 8 psychologists, supported by 2 admin staff (www.theyoungmindclinic.com). However, when Sophie and her family relocated to the Southern Highlands, she decided to continue her work with clients in a satellite clinic in Bowral (located at The Railway Rooms in Station St). Sophie also provides Psychology Board Approved Supervision via teleconference to psychologists, school counsellors and other health professionals in many different locations in the area of child and adolescent therapy and assessment. Sophie pairs a warm empathetic approach with evidence based practice in her work with clients and supervisees.

THERAPY 

Sophie currently offers therapy at her Bowral rooms for young people between the ages of 16 and 24. She utilises a cognitive behavioural focus with the addition of a dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills approach. Some common presentations that Sophie currently works with include:

  • Adjustment issues (eg transitioning from school to work or uni)
  • Anxiety & depression
  • Perfectionism and procrastination
  • Time management and organisation
  • Difficulties with sleep
  • Relationship and interpersonal challenges including managing conflict and improving communication.

Sophie has a warm interaction style and is conscious of the importance of developing trust and a strong therapeutic relationship to provide the right conditions for change. She particularly appreciates everyone's unique set of strengths that when harnessed properly, can provide a powerful force in the direction of change.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Sophie provides supervision to registered psychologists, including registrars in the area of Clinical and Ed/Dev practice endorsement, provisional psychologists and other health professionals seeking supervision in the area of child and adolescent practice.
